There are a lot of reasons for Georgia to feel really good about themselves as they rest this weekend during their second bye week. The Bulldogs are 6-1 and the No. 5 team in the country and appear to be in great position to make the College Football Playoff and SEC Championship game.
But when it comes to the SEC Championship, Georgia still needs some help to make it there, and LSU can be that team to give them the help they need.
Georgia could use some assistance from LSU
Georgia currently sits in a tie for third in the SEC standings with one loss. There are two teams left sitting atop the conference with zero losses, and those teams are Alabama and Texas A&M. At this point it's unrealistic for Georgia to surpass the Crimson Tide because they need Alabama to lose twice since they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. But that isn't the case with A&M.
All Georgia needs is for the Aggies to lose one game to move back into a tie with them. While that still wouldn't guarantee that Georgia advances to the SEC Championship game yet, Texas A&M needs to lose to even give Georgia a chance.
At this point in the season it is too difficult to determine who would advance to play Alabama in the SEC Championship game if Texas A&M loses to LSU. That would mean seven teams would be tied with one loss in the conference, so all seven teams would have a chance to make it to Atlanta.
Obviously these teams are going to start picking up some more losses, especially because they all play each other, but for now all Georgia can hope is that A&M loses to LSU so they have a chance to make it to the SEC Championship game.
