Georgia football is behind the eight ball this season when it comes to the race to make the SEC Championship game. If the season were to end today, the Bulldogs would fall short of making it to Atlanta to defend their SEC title they won last season. That is unacceptable at a program like Georgia.
The good news for Georgia is that there is still plenty of season to play and as long as they win out they will make it to the SEC Championship game. But there are a few outcomes that could occur on Saturday in the SEC that would increase Georgia’s chances at making it to Atlanta.
3 outcomes that would help Georgia make the SEC Championship game
There are five teams left in the SEC that are undefeated in conference play. From Georgia’s perspective it would be nice for as many of those teams to lose on Saturday as it would put them in a better position to make it to the SEC Championship game later this season.
Thankfully one of those five teams is guaranteed to pick up a loss when Alabama and Missouri face off. Both teams are undefeated in conference play, so Georgia will gain a game on one of these teams either way. But it would be much better for Georgia if Alabama were to lose since the Crimson Tide have the tiebreaker over Georgia, so a Missouri win on Saturday would be ideal for Georgia.
Texas A&M and Oklahoma are two more teams still undefeated this season. The Aggies play Florida on Saturday while the Sooners face Texas, but unfortunately both Texas A&M and Oklahoma are predicted to win. But anything is possible in the SEC, so Georgia fans should be cheering for Florida and Texas to pull of some upsets.
The final team still undefeated in SEC play is Ole Miss. The Rebels face Washington State on Saturday so they will remain undefeated in SEC play regardless of what happens. But don’t worry, Georgia will get their chance to hand Ole Miss their first loss of the season next week when the Rebels come to Athens.
Georgia needs to beat Auburn for any of this to matter. The Bulldogs are now favored by four points over Auburn, so the expectation is for Georgia to win and move to 3-1 in SEC play. But for Georgia to have the perfect Saturday this week they also need Alabama, Texas A&M and Oklahoma to lose as well.
