The SEC media preseason rankings and polls were released on Friday, and included in that are the preseason All-SEC first, second and third team selections. Georgia football unsurprisingly has a lot of Bulldogs across all three teams, but it's their defense that stole the show with four All-SEC first team selections.
Georgia has 4 defenders named to All-SEC first team
Georgia is known of having elite defenses during the Kirby Smart era, and the SEC media anticipate that to be the case again this season as the Bulldogs earned a whopping four of the 11 selections to the All-SEC first team on defense. Georgia's selections include defensive lineman Chirsten Miller, linebacker CJ Allen and defensive backs KJ Bolden and Daylen Everette.
UGA is one of only two schools to earn multiple spots on the All-SEC first team defense as Texas had three players named to the team.
These four defenders were the only Bulldogs to be named to any of the three teams as UGA did not have any defenders named to the second or third team. Georgia did however have a few offensive player named to these teams as tight end Oscar Delp made the second team and running back Nate Frazier and offensive lineman Earnest Green both made the third team.
The media also released their SEC preseason rankings as well, and Georgia was named the No. 2 team in the conference entering the season. The Bulldogs however were predicted to fall short to Texas in the SEC Championship game as the Longhorns were named the preseason favorite to win the conference.
Regardless of what the media thinks about Georgia, it is clear the Bulldogs will be one of the top contenders in the SEC this season. And based on these polls from the media, it will be Georgia's defense that will carry them to their success this season.
