Jaden Reddell once debated leaving Georgia for another school, but thankfully his mom convinced him to stay and now he is catching touchdown passes for Georgia.
Reddell came to Georgia in 2024 as one of the top tight ends in the country. His career however got off to an extremely slow start as he recorded just three receptions in his first two seasons at Georgia. Now he is celebrating the first touchdown of his Georgia career during the Bulldogs' 63-3 win over Tennessee State, and according to Kirby Smart fans might have his mom to thank.
"He had opportunities to leave and go places," Smart said via dawgnation.com. "Everybody does. He didn’t choose to. His mom stood firm. Mom said, ‘You’re gonna stay there, you’re gonna outwork average, you’re gonna compete. And man, has he flourished, flourished."

Reddell was expected to make an impact at Georgia the second he arrived on campus in 2024. He was a top 100 player in his recruiting class and one of the top tight ends in the country, and with that comes expectations to compete and play right away.
That's not how it worked out for him though, and according to Smart he wasn't even close to being ready to play.
“And it didn’t happen right away," Smart continued. "I’ll be honest with you: He wasn’t what he needed [to be]. He wasn’t ready to block. He would tell you he wasn’t physically ready. He wasn’t mentally ready. He had so many things. It was a shock to go play the speed."
Fast forward to today and Reddell looks more than ready to play at Georgia. Throughout the offseason reports were indicating that he was shining and ready to have a big year which is great to hear, but it doesn't matter what someone does in the offseason if it doesn't translate to the regular season. For Reddell though it did translate on Saturday.
He finished the day with two catches for 38 yards and the first touchdown of his career. Reddell's touchdown is also drawing comparisons to Brock Bowers after he bounced off multiple defenders and turned the corner to find the end zone just like Bowers did so many times in a Georgia uniform. That comparison is never a bad thing and shows that it is finally his time to shine after waiting his turn for two years.

Reddell could've transferred to a wide range of schools. If he did likely no one would've been upset to see him go because he would've ultimately just been looking for a school where he could play.
He however stuck it out with Georgia and that decision is already paying dividends.
Georgia is different from the average college football program. Kirby Smart runs his program based on loyalty to the guys he recruited. Georgia isn't a school that is looking to recruit the best player in the Transfer Portal just because they can, Smart would rather build his program with the players already in Athens. He believes in the guys in the program, and that included Reddell even after the slow start to his career.
Now he is scoring touchdowns and looking like a legit SEC tight end, and Georgia fans should be extremely thankful that Smart and Reddell's mom convinced him to stay.
