SEC officials can't go a day without a controversial call even if their life depended on it. Every Georgia fan remembers how many questionable calls they made during UGA's win over Auburn a few weeks ago, but thankfully those mostly went in Georgia's favor.

That unfortunately was not the case as a horrific false start call on Gunner Stockton cost Georgia a chance to tie the game with a field goal.

Controversial call costs Georgia a chance to tie Florida

Midway through the second quarter Georgia was driving down the field while trailing Florida 10-7. The Bulldogs faced a key fourth down play just outside of field goal range, and UGA opted to run with Stockton to try and pick up the first down.

That is when the officials got involved and called a penalty on Stockton for "simulating the snap."

As the above post mentions, all Stockton did was clap for the ball. And anyone who has watched football knows that quarterbacks clap for the football all the time. Quarterbacks also try hard counts quite often in an attempt to draw the defense offsides, so the fact Stockton was penalized for this was insane.

This penalty pushed Georgia back which ultimately forced them to punt the ball away instead of having a chance to tie the game or take the lead. And as one would assume, Georgia fans are not happy.

Georgia is tied with Florida 10-10 at the half thanks to a late field goal, but if it wasn't for this bad call UGA could have the lead. The Bulldogs however need to move past this call because a loss agaisnt Florida would be extremely detrimental to their season.

Georgia has thankfully been a second half team all season, so hopefully they will come out firing on all cylinders and find a way to win this game.
