There are very few moments throughout the years where Georgia fans should cheer for Auburn. That is especially the case immediately after they just beat UGA for the first time in a decade, but it might make a little sense for Georgia to cheer for one of their biggest rivals the rest of this season.

Auburn is 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play, so it's important they don't do too well and make a run to the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff. To accomplish either they would probably need to go undefeated the rest of this season which seems unlikely, they however have a chance to make Georgia's resume look better while also knocking some teams out of the SEC Championship race altogether.

A good Auburn makes Georgia's resume look better

Right now Georgia's loss to Auburn looks bad. They are an average football team at best, so losing to them at home significantly hurts UGA's resume.

When it comes time to seed teams in the playoff this loss could move them further down that list when Georgia is compared to other teams with the same record. That is only true though if Auburn remains average, if they finish strong then this loss could turn into a "good" loss.

No loss to Auburn is ever good from Georgia's perspective, but there's a chance an outsider could eventually give Georgia somewhat of a pass for this loss if Auburn finished the season with an 8-4 record or better.

Auburn could knock other teams out of the SEC Championship race

Georgia's loss to Auburn made making the SEC Championship game a little more difficult. The Bulldogs are still in control of their own destiny, but one more loss and that won't be the case.

Auburn however has a chance to beat some other teams still in the SEC Championship race this season which would make Georgia's odds of getting to Atlanta a little better.

This week Auburn faces LSU and in their season finale they play Alabama. Both of these teams have two losses in conference play and one more loss would knock them out of contention to make it to Atlanta. Auburn could hand them that loss which means Georgia would have one less team to worry about.

In two weeks Auburn travels to Ole Miss. The Rebels are one of four teams in the SEC with one loss, so it would be nice to see them get another loss. Georgia will get their chance to hand Ole Miss a loss in a couple weeks when they play in Oxford, but it wouldn't hurt if they had another loss on their resume before UGA played them.

It'll be a bit painful to cheer for Georgia and it may cause some fans to be sick to their stomach just at the thought of it, but there's nothing that UGA can do to change the result of their game last week against Auburn. So the best thing going forward for Georgia might be seeing them finish the season strong.
