Kirby Smart made a lot of additions to his coaching staff this week. First he made an enemy out of a Big 12 program by stealing a coach who had been there for only one month. Then he hired a former Bulldog who played during the beginning of his career to replace Will Muschamp who departed for Texas.

Now Smart is making arguably the biggest hire of the week by adding fan favorite Robert Edwards to Georgia's support staff.

Georgia adds legendary RB to coaching staff

Edwards was a star for Georgia back in the 90s. He played for Georgia from 1993-97 and began his career as a corner. He however quickly changed to running back where he then made a name for himself throughout his career.

During his time at Georgia he tallied 2,334 yards and 27 touchdowns. His final season in 1997 however was his best as he recorded 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns on 165 carries. This was good enough to earn All-SEC honors and cement himself as one of Georgia's most beloved Bulldogs of all time.

Edwards exact role with the team has not been publicly shared, but he will be serving on Smart's coaching staff in a support role. This likely means he will be working with the offense altogether while spending most of his time with Georgia's running backs.

Having Edwards part of the program in an official capacity is a big deal. He is a legendary Bulldog that everyone in the program already knew, so he will be able to immediately come in and make an impact on the team because everyone knows how knolwedgable he is.

Georgia more than likely is done adding to their staff for the 2026 season. There is a small chance they make another hire before the season begins, but the staff in place now will be the group that hopefully leads Georgia to big things this fall.
