Every Georgia football fan should know the name Tyler Atkinson by now. But in case there are still a few fans who aren’t familiar, he is the No. 1 linebacker in the country and No. 9 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
That clearly is enough to make Atkinson a very important target for Georgia, but the fact he is from the state of Georgia makes him potentially the most important recruit this cycle for UGA.
Atkinson has visited Georgia countless times throughout his recruitment, but he has not taken an official visit to Athens yet. That fact was becoming very concerning because the last two weekends he did visit Clemson and Oregon on official visits. This made it seem like he might not be as interested in Georgia as people thought, but those worries were thrown to the side with the latest update to his recruitment on Wednesday.

5-star Tyler Atkinson finally schedules official visit to Georgia
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Atkinson will take his official visit to Georgia this weekend. This immediately makes Atkinson the most important and highest ranked recruit that will be on campus this coming weekend.
Both 247Sports and On3 name Georgia the leader in Atkinson’s recruitment, but intel surrounding him has gone cold over the last few weeks. It does seem like he enjoyed both of his trips to Clemson and Oregon the last two weeks, but neither team did enough to convince the recruiting experts to change who the favorite in this recruitment is.
It’s unclear when Atkinson plans to announce his commitment, but there’s a good chance it won’t be for some time still as visits to Alabama and Ohio State could be on the horizon as those are the two other teams still in the running for Atkinson. So unfortunately it isn’t likely for Atkinson to commit to Georgia after this weekend, but anything is possible.
