This offseason is bound to be one of the wildest the SEC has ever seen. Four head coaches have already been fired in the conference, and there is a chance a few more coaches could be let go by the end of the season. So this means the SEC will look completely different next season.

Georgia will not be firing Kirby Smart anytime soon, but there is a chance they could lose one of their assistant coaches who could be looking to fill one of these head coach openings. And Defensive Coordinator Glenn Schumman has officially been linked to the head coach opening at LSU.

Glenn Schumann could be LSU's next head coach

Schumann has spent nine seasons at Georgia under Smart. He first came to Georgia in 2016 where he began his career with the Bulldogs as the linebackers coach, but after three seasons he was promoted to co-Defensive Coordinator. Schumann held that title through 2023 when he become the sole Defensice Coordinator for Georgia in 2024. Fast forward to 2025 and he is in his second season in that role.

Schumann has not been a head coach in his career, so this likely is the next move for him if he wishes to progress his career. And if he wants to become a head coach there aren't many better landing spots than LSU. Sure the expectations at LSU are sky high, but they have access to unlimited resources and are in a recruiting hot bed, so he could find immediate success with the Tigers.

Schumann has also been linked to the opening at Florida as well, but it goes without saying that Georgia fans would rather see him go to LSU over the Gators. Regardless, Schumman is a popular name in college football right now, so it would not be surprising to see him leave Georgia this offseason for one of these jobs.
