Georgia football is fresh off their 59-21 win over UMass on Saturday. This win on its own won’t raise too many eyebrows, so it likely wouldn’t impact their position in the updated AP Poll rankings.

However, Saturday was full of upsets all over college football, so with many teams in front of Georgia losing on Saturday the Bulldogs were surely going to move up in the updated AP Poll on Sunday.

And that is exactly what happened.

Georgia jumps to No. 6 in AP Poll

Georgia checks in at No. 6 in this week’s AP Poll. This is a two spot improvement from last week when the Bulldogs were No. 8.

After all the losses in the SEC, Kirby Smart and Georgia are now the second highest ranked SEC team behind Texas. There is a good argument for Georgia to be above Texas considering UGA’s head-to-head win and the Longhorns’ lack of a quality win. But for now, Georgia will stay put behind them.

The Longhorns do have a big game coming up this week on the road against Texas A&M. And while this game could impact Georgia’s future ranking, more importantly is the fact that the winner of this game will take on Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

Oregon and Ohio Stte remain on top of the rankings with Penn State holding steady at No. 4 as well. But it’s Notre Dame who has slowly climbed their way into the top five after annihilating an undefeated Army team on Saturday.

It will be interesting to see where Georgia is ranked in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings. UGA was No. 10 this past week, so there is a chance they continue to be behind their AP ranking. But three teams lost that were in front of Georgia, so there’s a great chance UGA will be No. 7 on Tuesday night when the most important rankings come out.
