There are a lot of questions surrounding Georgia football heading into the 2025 season. One of the biggest questions is how Georgia will handle having to start a new quarterback after Carson Beck transferred to Miami (FL) this offseason. But there are many other reasons why some might question how good of a season Georgia will have in 2025.
But it's one thing to question how good UGA will be and it's another to claim they will be bad. And that is exactly what ESPN just did.
Is Georgia one of the most likely teams to regress?
In a recent post from ESPN’s Bill Connelly, he stated that Georgia is one of the most likely teams to regress this upcoming season.
There are a few reasons why Connelly feels this way, with the biggest being the amount of production Georgia lost to the draft this offseason. In fact, Connelly ranked UGA as the second to last team in the SEC when it comes to returning production. This concern is definitely valid because replacing a lot of production is a tough thing to do, but this is nothing new to Georgia.
The Bulldogs are one of the programs who sends the most talent to the NFL every year, and Georgia has still remained at the top of the college football world. So until Kirby Smart and Georgia show that they are unable to replace this talent, then the assumption should be that they’ll be just fine.
On top of losing a lot of production, Georgia also has a very difficult schedule once again. This includes playing Texas, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss as well as Auburn and Florida who should be much better than last year. This difficult schedule however isn’t much of a concern either because Georgia just won the SEC this past season after facing all of these teams as well.
Everyone knows there is a chance Georgia regresses this season, but are they one of the “most likely” teams that will? Based on recent history and the stacked roster Georgia still has, the answer to that question is a resounding no.
