Georgia football has still been waiting for their first running back commit in the 2026 recruiting class. The Bulldogs already have a top five class in the country, but the fact that they didn’t have a running back in their class yet was a little concerning.

That however changed on Wednesday as four-star running back Jae Lamar has announced his commitment to Georgia.

4-star Jae Lamar becomes latest Georgia commit

Kirby Smart and Georgia had some serious competition for Lamar throughout his recruitment. Auburn, Clemson, Miami (FL), Georgia Tech and Florida State were all named finalists along with Georgia, which is a pretty big number of finalists compared to other recruits. But it was Georgia who was able to come out on top for one of the top running backs in the country.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Lamar is the No. 107 player in the country. He also is the No. 8 running back in the class as well as the No. 12 player from the Peach State.

Lamar now joins Georgia’s recruiting class which is continuing to surge up the recruiting rankings. Lamar is the 21st recruit to join Georgia’s class, which now sits at No. 4 in the country according to 247Sports. The Bulldogs do still find themselves behind Texas A&M in these rankings, but the Aggies are less than a point ahead of Georgia. So all it will take is one more commit and the Bulldogs will once again have the best class in the conference.

The good news for Georgia fans is that they very well could pass Texas A&M in the next few days. UGA has many of their top targets announcing their commitments throughout the rest of this week, and recruiting insiders have been continuing to hint at more good news for Georgia coming soon.

So Georgia in all likelihood could have the top ranked class in the SEC very soon, if not in the entire country.
