Recruiting in college football nowadays is about as wild as it can get. NIL is the biggest reason why, and NIL has caused one major change to happen on the recruiting trail.

Years ago, players would commit to a program and it was very rare for them to ever back off of that commitment. Yes decommitments did happen still, but it was far less often than what we experience nowadays. That means coaches today have to continue to recruit their committed players just as hard as they have to with regular recruits who have not committed anywhere yet.

And while Kirby Smart is going to need to do that with all the of the players currently committed to Georgia football, he is going to have to pay extra attention to one of his recruits in particular.

โ€œI hear that it is not over a lot from a lot of different coaches.โ€

Zech Fort's recruitment is far from over

Zech Fort is a four-star safety from Bradenton, FL. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Fort is the No. 109 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 8 safety in the 2026 class and the No. 15 player from Florida.

Fort committed to Georgia back on Jan. 30 and to this day is the top ranked player committed to Georgia in the 2026 class. But that commitment appears to be in question as On3 is reporting that many other schools feel his recruitment "is not over." On3 shows the logos for Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Florida and USC in the above post which indicates that these are the four schools who are targeting Fort the most.

Fort has not shown any public interest in any other program since committing to Georgia, but that isn't something he likely would want to immediately make known anyways. So this is a recruitment to pay close attention to because Smart and his staff clearly have a lot of work to do to hold on to Fort's commitment.
