Georgia football and Kirby Smart have been very aggressive in the transfer portal so far this year, but unfortunately for them they hadn’t earned a commitment from any players yet.
That however was bound to change at some point because of how many players Georgia has been recruiting. And that change came on Sunday when UGA earned commitments from two of the top players in the transfer portal.

USC transfers Zachariah Branch and Zion Branch committed to Georgia
Georgia earned the commitment from two players out of the portal on Sunday. The first is USC safety Zion Branch, who is the No. 16 safety in the portal according to 247Sports.
But the big splash on Sunday came from his brother, USC wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who according to 247Sports is the No. 4 overall player in the country. Branch is coming off his second season with the Trojans where he recorded 47 receptions for 503 yards and a touchdown. He was also active on special teams as a returner as well, and even returned one kick for a touchdown in 2023.
Branch fills a massive hole in Georgia’s roster as the wide receiver room at UGA was not great this season. The Bulldogs also lost wide receiver Anthony Evans to the portal on Sunday as well, so Branch fills an immediate need at the position.
This commitment is the best thing that could have happened to Georgia this offseason. Branch is recognized as one of the most electric players in the country and is a player that any team would have been lucky to have. But in the end it’s Georgia that the brothers are going with.
While this loss doesn’t make up for the disappointing end to Georgia’s season, it immediately brings hope for next year in what could now be another special year for the Bulldogs.
