Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell is all anyone in the college football world is talking about. The No. 1 player in the 2026 recruiting class announced his top four schools earlier this month, which consisted of Georgia, Miami (FL), Ohio State and Oregon. Cantwell also shared during that announcement that he will commit on April 30.
Those plans however changed on Wednesday as Cantwell pushed his commitment date back two weeks to May 13. The sole reason for this decision was so he could make anothe visit to Georgia before his commitment, which is scheduled for May 10.
This update created quite the stir among Georgia fans because it led many to beleive that Georgia was now the team to beat. However, no one actually knew if UGA was the leader for Cantwell as an expert prediction had not been logged yet to back that up.
That changed Thursday morning however as On3's Steve Wiltfong officially predicted Cantwell to commit to Georgia.

Georgia football is closing in on the No. 1 recruit in the country
Things can obviously change at any moment in a recruitment of this magnitude. Any of Cantwell's other top schools are still in the running, and all it might take for them to pass Georgia and become the new leader is a massive NIL offer he can't say no to. This is something that happens quite often in today's college football recruiting world, so it is a very real possibility of happening here.
However, there is no greater sign that Georgia is leading for Cantwell than a prediction in their favor from Wiltfong, who is one of the most respected insiders in all of college football. He hardly ever gets a prediction wrong, so this is a great sign for Georgia's chances.
Kirby Smart and his staff however will have to hold on to their lead for a few more weeks, but their visit on May 10 will really help with that. So even though this recruitment isn't over yet, Georgia appears to be about two weeks away from landing the No. 1 player in the country.
