Georgia football has been one of the best programs in the SEC when it comes to recruiting since Kirby Smart became head coach. In fact, the Bulldogs have finished inside the top two in the team recruiting rankings for three years in a row now.
The hope going forward is that this trend will continue because that is what will keep Georgia at the top of the college football world.
Smart and his staff got off to a somewhat slow start recruiting the 2026 class as they were not landing as many recruits as other programs at the start of this year. That however changed in May as Georgia added five commits during the month, which is almost half of their current class total which sits at 11.
It won’t be surprising to find out that Georgia shot up the recruiting rankings during this past month after all of these commitments, but how high did they climb?
Georgia has SEC’s top recruiting class after weekend commitment
Georgia earned a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Carter Luckie on Saturday, which gave Georgia their 11th commit in the 2026 class. This commitment gave UGA the No. 6 overall recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. However, when looking at the SEC alone, the Bulldogs have the No. 1 class in the conference.
While having the best class in the SEC is a big accomplishment, it’s still too early to celebrate. There are still over six months left in the 2026 recruiting cycle, so things will certainly change from now until December. And the hope for Georgia is that a lot of things will change, because 11 commits is nowhere near enough to complete their class.
Also, having the No. 6 overall class in the country isn’t good enough for Georgia either. Thankfully all five schools above UGA have more commits than them, so they should catch up to these programs as they add more players.
But it’s impossible to ignore how big of a month May was for Georgia with their 2026 recruiting class, and so far all signs point towards that success continuing throughout June.
