Now that Georgia football's season is officially over after losing to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, the Bulldogs are now off and running in the offseason. This means that recruiting is going to take center stage as Kirby Smart and his staff look to attack both the transfer portal and high school recruiting ranks.

Recently Georgia received good news from one of the top players in the country as he put UGA in his top four. However, hours after this news came out, this player was predicted to commit to a school not named Georgia.

4-star ATH Matt Ludwig predicted to Michigan

Matt Ludwig is a four-star athlete from Billings, MT who is porjected to play tight end at the next level. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Ludwig is the No. 268 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 19 athlete in the 2026 recruiting class as well as the top ranked player from his home state of Montana.

Ludwig recently announced his top four schools which consisted of Georgia, Michigan, Texas Tech and Tennessee. However, he was predicted to commit to Michigan by On3's Steve Wiltfong just hours after this news came out.

This isn't the worst news in the world for Georgia because there is still plenty of time for UGA to stay involved in this recruitment and pass Michigan. The Bulldogs also already have a tight end committed to their 2026 class in Lincoln Keyes, who is a four-star player and ranked inside the top 250 according to 247Sports.

This still would be a nice recruitment for Georgia to win, so look for Smart and his staff to stay involved at least until he makes his commitment to Michigan official. However, even if that does occur, Georgia will still have every chance to change his mind throughout the recruiting cycle. Smart has proven time and time again how great of a recruiter he is, so he should never be doubted on the recruiting trail as he is more than capable of flipping any player he wants.
