One of the top recruiting targets for Georgia football in the 2027 class is four-star EDGE KJ Green. Green is from the state of Georgia and so far has reportedly been hearing a lot from Kirby Smart and his staff.
Unfortunately the Bulldogs do trail SEC rival Alabama in Green's recruitment, according to 247Sports.

Georgia has some work to do to catch up to Alabama
According to 247Sports, Green is the No. 26 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 5 EDGE in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 4 player from the Peach State.
There are a lot of elite programs that are currently pursuing Green including South Carolina, Georgia, USC and Florida, but unfortunately it is Alabama that is the current leader in his recruitment. This shouldn't be all that surprising to find out that the Tide are leading for Green because Alabama has found a lot of recent success on the recruiting trail. This includes being the only school to have four five-star commits in their 2026 class.
Georgia on the other hand is having an even better run of recruiting in the 2026 class. UGA doesn't have the same number of five-star commits as Alabama, but they do currently have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. So even though Georgia still trails Alabama for Green, there is no reason to doubt Georgia's chances in the long run.
It is unlikely that Green will announce a commitment anytime soon, but that is a good thing if this report is accurate in Alabama being his leader. More likely than not Green will take his recruitment into next summer so he can take a handful of official visits, and Georgia undoubtedly will be included in that bunch.
Regardless, Smart and his staff have over a year to continue recruiting Green, so don't be surprised if Georgia ends up on top at the end of his recruitment.
