Georgia football gets to sit back and relax for a few weeks while eight teams in the College Football Playoff are gearing up for their first round games. The Bulldogs SEC Championship victory helped them clinch the 3-seed and a first round bye in this year's playoff, so UGA will definitely be happy to get some extra time to rest and heal up as they prepare for their first game.
While Georgia waits to see who their first round opponent will be, the kickoff time for their first game has been set and it should not be a surprise to anyone.
Georgia football given perfect CFP kickoff time
Georgia will play the winner of the first round matchup between Tulane and Ole Miss on Thursday, Jan. 1. This game will be played at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and kickoff has been scheduled for 8:00 pm EST.
This means that ESPN has decided to make Georgia the primetime game out of the four quarterfinal matchups that will take place on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Georgia has been the third most watched team this season in all of college football as they have had about 7.5 million people watch their games on average. This only trails Alabama and Texas, but the Longhorns failed to make the playoff and the Crimson Tide aren't guaranteed to make the quarterfinals, so that is why ESPN opted to give Georgia the primetime TV slot.
The Bulldogs most likely opponent for this matchup is Ole Miss, and every college football fan will want to see them play in the playoff as well. Everyone knows Lane Kiffin departed the Rebels for LSU and is not being allowed to coach in the playoff, so it will be interesting to see how Ole Miss does without Kiffin on their sideline.
Georgia fans unfortunately have to wait nearly a month for their first playoff game, but the Bulldogs are playing as good as anyone right now. So while this wait will be tough it will definitely be worth it because Georgia is in prime position to make a run at a National Championship.
