Things are really beginning to ramp up on the recruiting trail for Georgia football, especially when it comes to the transfer portal. Kirby Smart and his staff have made it very obvious which two positions they want to aggressively target in the portal, and one of those positions might surprise you.

The first is wide receiver, which after the year Georgia's receivers have had shouldn't come as a surprise at all. However, it may be a little surprising to see Smart target a few different QBs in the portal.

Georgia is already named a "contender" for a transfer QB from Cal, but one QB target isn't enough for Georgia.

Charlotte transfer QB Deshawn Purdie

According to On3, Georgia has offered Charlotte transfer QB Deshawn Purdie.

Purdie is coming off his freshman season at Charlotte where he completed 50 percent of his passes for 1,802 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in just nine games played. His best game of the season by far came against FAU on Nov. 23 when he threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns.

These stats are decent for a freshman QB in his first season in college, but in all honesty they are nowhere near the level that Georgia fans expect. So that is why this offer doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If Purdie does transfer to Georgia, it is very unlikely that he would become the starter next season. So maybe Smart sees Purdie as a long term option where he could develop into a player who could compete for the starting job one day. But as it stands today, Purdie likely would not be able to win the starting job.

It will be interesting to see how aggressively Georgia and Smart pursue Purdie. Especially considering Fernando Mendoza from Cal is a more polished player at this point in his career, Purdie may just be a backup option in case Georgia isn't able to win the recruiting battle for Mendoza.
