The 12-team College Football Playoff has only been around for two years, but the powers at be are ready to add even more teams to the playoff. That may seem like a simple thing to do, but it would impact the entire college football calendar beyond just adding more playoff games.
In fact, one of the changes will have a direct impact on the Bulldogs' dominance over the SEC because conference championship games may no longer exist.
NEW: The AFCA Board has recommended the following:

• Expanded playoff with maximum participation
• Elimination of conference title games
• Ending the College Football Playoff by mid-January

Georgia's run at the SEC Championship game is on the brink of ending
A new announcement on Tuesday shared three big changes that could be coming to college football. Of the three changes there is only one that is widely considered a positive change.
The playoff this year lasted well into the month of January. This coming season it is scheduled to go even further into the January. This is far too late into the new year especially when it comes to the Transfer Portal, so a new proposal has been put out that would ensure the playoff would end by mid-January.
This would be a great change, but it can only happen if the playoff starts sooner. That is where the worst news imaginable comes into play because they want to eliminate conference championship games to allow the playoff to begin the first week of December instead.
Georgia has dominated the SEC Championship game recently. The Bulldogs have made it five years in a row and have won three of those games which includes the previous two. But with the SEC Championship game potentially going away that would immediately end the Bulldogs' run of dominance.
The playoff is also likely going to expand again with the most likely outcome being a 24-team playoff. That is far too many teams and is the reason why the playoff would need to start sooner and why conference championship games would get kicked to the curb.
Kirby Smart is in full support of expanding the playoff even if that means the SEC Championship game goes away. But is expanding the playoff even a good thing? Ever since it expanded to 12 teams Georgia hasn't won a single playoff game, but unfortunately it looks like the playoff is going to expand again and Smart will do whatever he needs to do to help make that happen.
