Georgia football has waited nearly a month, but their Sugar Bowl showdown against Notre Dame is finally here. The Bulldogs have a lot of momentum coming into their first College Football Playoff game of the season, even after losing Carson Beck for the season, but that is exactly what happens after you beat Texas in the SEC Championship game behind your backup QB.

UGA has faced Notre Dame a couple times in recent years, but they are far from a familiar opponent. So what does the history look like between these two programs?

Let's take a quick look before the game begins and see how these two blue bloods have done against each other in their histories.

Georgia is undefeated against Notre Dame all time

It was a little surprising to see that two historic programs like Georgia and Notre Dame have only faced each other three times. It also is a little shocking to see that Georgia is undefeated against Notre Dame as well. That's right, Georgia is a perfect 3-0 against the Irish.

This includes a perfect 2-0 record during the Kirby Smart era when the Bulldogs beat Notre Dame 20-19 on the road in 2017 then won again in Athens 23-17 in 2019.

But the game everyone wants to talk about the most was the first meeting when Georgia beat Notre Dame in the 1981 Sugar Bowl 17-10. This victory also clinched the Bulldogs their second National Championship in program history.

How much fun would it be to beat Notre Dame once again and stay undefeated against one of the bluest blue bloods in college football? If these three games tell us anything it is that it will be an extremely close contest, but as long as Georgia comes out on top then who cares how close the game is.
