It's that time again. Georgia football is back in action in yet another massive game as the Bulldogs are set to take on No. 7 Tennessee in Athens. UGA is coming off a blowout loss to Ole Miss last week, so they are going to be looking to bounce back in a big way in front of their home crowd.
The Vols are a team that Georgia is very familiar with as they have played them every season recently as two SEC East teams. However, now that the divisions in the SEC are gone, it is not a guarantee that Georgia plays Tennessee every season. But that is not the case this season.
There is a lot of history between these two great programs as well as a lot of great games to look back on. So let's take a quick look at the series history between these two teans before the big game gets here on Saturday night.
Georgia football holds a slight edge over Tennessee
Georgia football hold the edge in the all time series history against Tennessee 28-23-2. This includes a dominant 38-10 win by Georgia last season at Tennessee.
Speaking of dominant, that is the perfect word to use when talking about the recent matchups against Tennessee. Georgia is currently riding a seven game win streak in this series, which almost seems impossible to believe. But to make it even more impressive, Georgia has won these seven games by an average of 26.4 points. Tennessee has had very good teams in recent years, so that stat is one of the most impressive things about Georgia's recent run.
Kirby Smart did lose his first meeting against Tennessee in 2016 as Georgia's head coach 34-31, so his all time record against the Vols is 7-1. But considering what has happened in the seven games since then, Georgia fans likely aren't holding that against him.
Will Georgia be able to extend their win streak to 8 games against Tennessee? Time will tell. But it would be amazing if Georgia could stay as dominant as they have been against the Vols and give UGA fans a stress free win for the first time in quite some time.
