Georgia football has one of the biggest games of their season on Friday night when they welcome Georgia Tech to Samford Stadium. This game has huge implications on Georgia’s season as they are still looking to clinch their spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.

While clinching their spot is important enough, earning as high of a seed as possible is just as crucial as well. So Kirby Smart and Georgia need to impress the committee as much as they can in hopes of moving higher up in their rankings.

And while a win over the Yellow Jackets on Friday likely wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows, it should automatically move Georgia up at least one spot in the next release of the CFP rankings.

Georgia should move up with win over Georgia Tech

Obviously Georgia should move up if they beat Georgia Tech by a wide margin, but UGA should move up even if they win by a small margin.

The only reason that is the case is because Georgia Tech is the only team who has beat Miami (FL) so far this season, and the Hurricanes are one spot above Georgia at No. 7. So based off that fact alone, UGA should expect to move up even if they only win this game by one point.

Sure Georgia would still have one more loss than Miami, but Georgia’s resume would be good at that point to keep them behind the Hurricanes. Three top 12 wins and the win over Georgia Tech should be enough to overcome having this extra loss.

Since Georgia is nearly a three touchdown favorite over Georgia Tech, beating them shouldn’t be a problem. So we’ll find out next Tuesday if the College Football Playoff committee agrees and moves Georgia up, regardless of what Miami does this week against Syracuse.
