Georgia football skyrockets up week 9 AP Poll
Georgia football is moving up the AP Poll after their dominant 30-15 win at No. 1 Texas Saturday night. I think we all assumed the Bulldogs would move past the Longhorns, but with all three Big Ten teams ranked above UGA last week not losing, who knows what the AP voters would choose to do.
So how high did Georgia move up?
Georgia jumps to No. 2 in latest AP Poll
I didn’t know if the AP voters would do this or not, but I truly felt Georgia belonged at No. 2 in this week’s rankings. I think there was even a case to have Georgia jump all three Big Ten teams to the top spot, but I’m fine with Oregon moving up to No. 1 for now after they beat Ohio State last week.
Georgia did receive two of a possible 61 first place votes, with the remaining 59 going to Oregon.
Looking at the potential College Football Playoff scenario now, Georgia would comfortably be the 2-seed as well behind Oregon. This is obviously assuming Georgia ends up as the SEC champion, but as the weeks go by that is seeming like the most likely scenario.
Who else is ranked on Georgia’s schedule?
With five games remaining on Georgia’s schedule, there are only two ranked trams left on their schedule. The first is Ole Miss who Georgia will play in three weeks. Ole Miss stayed put at No. 18 in this week’s poll after their bye week.
The Bulldogs’ opponent after Ole Miss is Tennessee, who just knocked off Alabama on Saturday 24-17. That win, as you would assume, moved the Vols from No. 11 to No. 7 in the new AP Poll.
Kirby Smart and his team clearly have a lot of work cut out for them still. But if they can beat Texas on the road then they can beat anyone in the country.
