The University of Georgia football program received huge news on Tuesday when star tight end Oscar Delp made the announcement that he will be returning to Georgia for the 2025 season.
This upcoming season will be Delp's fourth at Georgia, and he is coming off another solid campaign Between the Hedges during his junior season. Delp led the tight end group this season in touchdowns with four. He was also second in receiving yards with 248 and receptions at 21.
Delp's return is undoubtedly big for Georgia, but especially for Gunner Stockton, who is the odds on favorite to be the heir apparent to Carson Beck, who announced last week that he is transferring to Miami.
How will Delp fit in on next year's team?
For Kirby Smart and his Georgia Bulldogs, Delp will be counted on to be a leader on the field as well as in the locker room. It is no secret that he brings tons of experience back with him to Georgia, but it is his great mix of hands, size, speed and knowledge of the playbook that will unquestionably aid Stockton, who for the first time in his college career is going into spring ball as the starting quarterback.
Obviously Stockton's time as the starting quarterback has been limited throughout his career, but he and Delp have likely still had plenty of time to work out together and get comfortable with one another. That history and knowledge of how to play well with each other will be critical as he will be a reliable target for Stockton who is always on the same page as him.
Next season has a chance to be special for Georgia, and a big part of that will be due to Delp returning and becoming a leader on this team.
