Georgia football vs Florida betting line sees wild movement
To likely no one's surprise, Georgia football opened as a substantial favorite against Florida this weekend. To be specific, the sportsbooks favored the Bulldogs by a whopping 18.5 points when they opened the betting markets for this game. That's what tends to happen when the No. 2 team in the country faces an unranked, 4-3 team, so it really wasn't all that surprising.
However, this line always felt a little too much in Georgia's favor. And it appears the sportsbooks and the rest of the country agree with that as well.
Betting line moving in Florida's favor
As of 8:00 pm EST on Wednesday, Oct. 30, Georgia has dropped a couple points and is now only a 16.5 point favorite, according to FanDuel.
To be fair, this is still a very large spread. But why is it shifting so much in Florida's favor already?
For starters, Florida has been one of the hottest teams in the SEC in recent weeks. The Gators may only be 4-3, but they have won three of their last four games. The one loss also game on the road against Tennessee in overtime, so that really isn't the worst loss in the world.
Georgia's results this season are likely also playing a roll in this movement as well. Kirby Smart's squad have played a lot of very close games this season, including a one point win over Kentucky, a 10-point win over Mississippi State and a close loss to Alabama. Sure Georgia has blown a few teams out this season, but it feels like a lot of games have been closer than most expected.
So when you combine these things together, you get a game that on paper feels like it could be close.
At the end of the day, 16.5 points is a lot, especially in a rivalry game. So it wouldn't be all that surprising to see the line shift even more in Florida's favor by the time the game kicks off on Saturday afternoon.
