Georgia football is gearing up for their matchup with Mississippi State, and all signs point to this being another close game. Even though Mississippi State has only won one game in the SEC this season, three of their four losses have been extremely close. Georgia has also played a lot of close games as well, so everyone should expect a very competitive game on Saturday.
Vegas also believes this will be a close game as they only favored Georgia by 7.5 points in their opening spread. That spread however is officially on the move as FanDuel Sportsbook has updated their line which now favors Georgia by 8.5 points.
Georgia vs Mississippi State spread is on the move
Many Georgia fans felt the initial spread of 7.5 points was far too low. Georgia is 7-1 and the No. 5 team in the country while Mississippi State is 5-4 and only 1-4 in conference play, so only being favored by a touchdown didn’t make much sense. But after a little digging this opening spread did make a little more sense.
Two of Mississippi State’s losses came in overtime against Tennessee and Texas. Both the Volunteers and Longhorns are solid teams, so while they did lose it wasn’t a bad loss by any means. Mississippi State also only lost to Florida by two points, so that very easily could have been a win as well. So Mississippi State is very close to being 8-1 right now as opposed to 5-4.
But at the end of the day, Georgia is a much better team. Sure they’ve had a lot of close wins, but a lot of those wins came against some of the best teams in the SEC. So while there is a good chance this game will be close, Georgia should expect to win by at least a few scores. And that is exactly what Vegas oddsmakers now think and this is seen by them adjusting the spread ahead of this matchup.
