Georgia still has one game to get through this weekend, but since it is against Charlotte who is 1-9 it is easy to overlook them. That is especially the case when Georgia's opponent in their season finale once again is Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets are having a phenominal season as they are 9-1 and the No. 16 team in the country. Georgia Tech also only needs to beat Pittsburgh at home on Saturday to ensure their spot in the ACC Championship game. But they will need to face an elite Georgia team next week before they get to play for an ACC title, but this Yellow Jackets team overall is a very solid squad.
But even though they are the No. 16 team in the country and are 9-1, Georgia is a massive favorite according to the opening spread released by Vegas oddsmakers.
Georgia vs Georgia Tech opening spread heavily favors the Bulldogs
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Georgia is predicted to beat Georgia Tech by 12.5 points. That is a massive margin to be favored by against a top 16 team in the country, and while it may be more than most fans expected it is warranted.
The ACC is about as bad as a Power Four conference can be this season. They only have three teams ranked in the College Football Playoff top 25, and Miami is the highest at No. 13. The Hurricanes also have a very slim chance to even make the ACC Championship game, so there is a real possibility the ACC only gets one team in the 12-team field this year.
On top of that, the Yellow Jackets haven't been playing very well recently. Just last week they only beat a 1-9 Boston College team by two points while losing to NC State the week before 48-36. Georgia on the other hand is trending in the right direction after beating Texas last weekend by 25 points.
So while 12.5 points may seem like a lot, in reality it could have been even higher. And that is how Georgia fans should know they have a special group competing for a national title in Athens this season.
