This game won't have as many options to watch as Georgia's games in the future, but that's sometimes what happens when the Bulldogs open their season against a lesser opponent. Tennessee State isn't just any lesser opponent though as Georgia is favored by 47.5 points with the over/under set at 56.5 points, according to FanDuel.
Gunner Stockton will be the guy everyone should be watching closely. He had an excellent season in 2025 as a first time starter, but there was an obvious need for him to improve on his deep ball this offseason. Tennessee State offers him the perfect opportunity to get his season started with a bang by showing how much progress he has made.
Georgia vs. Tennessee State early predictions
Georgia fans are hoping Gunner Stockton can make a serious run at the Hesiman Trophy this season. Last year he finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting, but fans are hoping he can improve on that this season while leading Georgia to a deeper playoff run. A week one matchup against Tennessee State gives him a chance to start the year off with a big day both through the air and on the ground, so 250 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown is realistic.
Nate Frazier will look to prove why he is one of the best running backs in the SEC as well. Georgia has a lot of depth to their running back room so Frazier's touches could be limited, but a 100 yard performance to open his season is possible and would go a long way at helping him eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in a season for the first time of his career.
Stockton, Frazier and the rest of the starters aren't expected to play in the fourth quarter of this game. Georgia should jump out to an early lead and never look back, and if they keep their foot on the pedal their backups should expect significant playing time in this game.
The game odds suggest Tennessee State will score around nine points in this game. Georgia should have a good chance to give up less than that though as their secondary has future NFL pros all over the field who are paired with a hungry defensive front ready to right their wrongs from a season ago and get after the quarterback.
Georgia could win this game by 50 points, but Kirby Smart historically doesn't run the score up against lesser opponents like Tennessee State. This game will likely still be ugly though and end in a big Georgia victory.
