Georgia football vs. Texas spread makes no sense

Georgia football is somehow an underdog against a Texas team they already beat by 15 points earlier this season.

Georgia football is just one week away from playing for an SEC Championship. Their opponent? The Texas Longhorns.

This game will have as much hype as any this season as it will likely feature two teams ranked in the top five fighting for a chance to earn a top four seed and get a first round bye in the College Football Playoff.

Everyone knows this game is likely to be very competitive and be a very close game, and Vegas agrees with that as well in their opening spread. While the spread is close, it really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Georgia vs. Texas opening spread

As of 1:00 pm EST on Sunday, Dec. 1, Georgia is a 2.5 point underdog against Texas according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Does Vegas forget that these two teams already played this year? Do they realize that Georgia already dominated Texas once this season, beating them by 15 points in their own stadium?

Sure Texas hasn’t lost since then and are coming off a big win at Texas A&M on Saturday, but Georgia being disrespected this much is very surprising.

However, if you remember the first meeting between these teams, nobody was giving Kirby Smart and Georgia a chance in that game either. Everyone was picking Texas to win, with many thinking it’d be an easy win for the Longhorns. But that clearly did not end up happening.

So maybe this will be the extra motivation Georgia needs so they can proven themselves once again against the Longhorns. And this win is potentially one of the most important for UGA’s season.

Georgia likely will still make the CFP if they lose, but they won’t get a first round bye if they do lose. And that extra time off is desperately needed considering how many injuries Georgia is currently dealing with.

So all Georgia needs to do is beat Texas, and then they’re off until their quarterfinal CFP matchup around the New Year. Sounds easy enough, right? Maybe not, but hopefully that’s what happens and this extra motivation will carry Georgia there.
