Georgia football has turned a corner this season and are starting to look like a very dangerous team with postseason play quickly approaching. The Bulldogs beatdown of Texas this past weekend showed that they have found a winning formula that will be tough for any team in the country to beat.
1. Gunner Stockton had one of the best games of the year
Gunner Stockton arguably had the best game of his young career considering all the circumstances of this game. Stockton showed off poise and resilience after his interception in the third quarter. But that didn’t stop him. Stockton still kept his head up high and was dicing up the Texas secondary for the rest of the game.
Stockton finished the game completing 24 of 29 for 229 yards, four touchdowns and one interception with rating of a 187.7. He also added 29 yards on the ground and 1 rushing touchdown as well. He showed that he can ball out when the pressure is on him as he shined in this game along with their matchup earlier this year against Ole Miss. If there is any quarterback someone should want to lead their team to victory when there is a lot of pressure on the line, Stockton is definitely making a case as the top choice.
WIth this top 10 win under their belt, one can only wonder how much confidence is growing in him and this offense the rest of the season. They ran the ball with ease, the passing game was on point and the blocking was great. Georgia has been playing complete and great football the last two weekends and it looks like nothing can slow them down.
2. Georgia's defense came to play
Georgia’s defense easily had their best game of the season all things considered. From the first snap to the very end, Georgia’s defense dominated Texas’s offense. Georgia held Texas to 23 rushing yards on 17 carries for 1.4 yards per carry. That is the lowest amount of rushing yards Georgia has allowed all season long.
Georgia’s defensive line dominated the trenches and made sure to take out the Texas rushing attack from the get go. Then, Georgia’s secondary deserves an applause for slowing up Texas’s elite aerial attack. Georgia allowed only 251 passing yards from Arch Manning and stopped a lot of big plays from occurring in this game. Georgia also created a turnover in Saturday's matchup which played a big part in the end result.
Overall, this has been the best that Georgia’s defense has looked all season which is very scary for a few playoff teams. Georgia is starting to understand it now and there could be something very special for them with the College Football Playoff right around the corner.
