Georgia football's matchup against Texas on Saturday was arguably their biggest game of the season. A loss would have ended Georgia's hopes of winning the SEC and put their College Football Playoff lives at risk as well. So losing to Texas was not an option for Georgia.
Thankfully Georgia did more than just beat Texas because they proved without a doubt that they are the best team in the SEC during their 35-10 victory over Texas.
Georgia cements themselves as SEC's best in win over Texas
This game was all Georgia from the moment it began. Georgia's defense held Texas to a field goal on the first drive of the game which all things considered is a big win for UGA. After that Georgia went down the field and scored a touchdown on their next two drives to take a 14-3 lead. That score held steady into halftime, but early in the third quarter Texas pulled within four points after their one and only touchdown of the game.
After that Georgia took complete control of the game once again as they scored a touchdown, kicked a surprise onside kick and followed that up with another touchdown. So before Texas could blink they trailed UGA 28-10. And a late touchdown run from Gunner Stockton iced the game and made it 35-10.
Beating a top 10 team by 25 points clealy is very impressive, but what took place throughout the rest of the SEC on Saturday shows that Georgia is the best team in the conference right now. The one team that has beaten Georgia this year, Alabama, lost at home to Oklahoma. Then there is Texas A&M who survived an upset bid by South Carolina to remain undefeated, but a one point win over the Gamecocks is nothing to write home about.
So it's clear that Georgia is the best team in the SEC right now, but they still need some help just to make it to Atlanta. But even if they fall short of playing for an SEC Championship, the Bulldogs should be one of the favorites to win a National Championship.
