Amid the coaching chaos that has unfolded in Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Governor, Jeff Landry, really stuck his nose in it.
Landry shared that the LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward wouldn't be involved in hiring Brian Kelly's replacement, instead opting for the program's Board of Directors would make the decision and slamming Woodward in the process.
“No, I can tell you right now Scott Woodward is not selecting the next head coach," Landry said in a press conference. "I’d let Donald Trump select it before I let him do it.”
In response, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp made sure everyone knew where his loyalties lie (and it wasn't with the undefeated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets).
"This is a Coach Kirby Smart appreciation tweet," Kemp wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Good luck, Jeff Landry! Go Dawgs!"
Georgia further cements itself above LSU
Not only do the Georgia Bulldogs have the far-superior football program over the last half-decade, but they have also claimed the superior gubernatorial office as well. As Landry continued to make a mess of the situation in Baton Rouge, Kemp solidified his alliance with the Bulldogs in Athens.

Good luck, @LAGovJeffLandry! Go Dawgs! https://t.co/ZWi9O1e8jA
Not to mention, there is no reason for anybody to question whether or not Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is sticking around. He has won two National Championships, three SEC titles, and six SEC divisional titles over the last 10 years.
Smart also signed a 10-year, $112.5 million extension in 2022, making sure that the Dawgs' fearless leader would be with the program for the foreseeable future.
Landry has turned the LSU job from one of the most enticing openings on the market to one of the positions that coaches are avoiding like the plague, and all it took was a couple of out-of-pocket comments from the state's Governor.
Meanwhile, once Smart retires (which will hopefully somehow never happen), it is undeniable that the head coaching job in Athens will have those in the world of college football foaming at the mouth.
