Win or lose, the first halves have not been fun to watch as a Georgia football fan. Through their first eight games of the season, Georgia has been either tied or trailed heading into the second half six times. These have all come against SEC teams. Georgia has been able to come out of halftime with a refined sense of focus, winning four of those five games in question. Just not the Alabama game...
After two frames down in Jacksonville, Georgia book-ended them with scoring drives to make it 10 all vs. Florida through two. The Dawgs scored a touchdown on its first possession before largely struggling to move the ball for Peyton Woodring kicked a chip-shot field goal to tie it up at 10 seconds before halftime. One could argue that Georgia handed Florida all 10 of the Gators' points...
Florida's lone touchdown in the first half came on a terrible punt off the foot of Brett Thorson. The short field allowed for DJ Lagway to find Eugene Wilson III for an easy six points on the first play of that drive. Florida's field goal was the result of another short field, set up by a Gunner Stockton interception on a play that wide receiver Noah Thomas should have come up with, to be honest...
But you know what? UGA Spike Squad loves where Georgia is right now heading into the third quarter.
Tied at the half?! Best position we’ve been in at the break all of conference play. These Dawgs going to take care of business the next 30

Florida may get the ball to start the second half, but that is when Georgia really starts to come alive.
Georgia has to be second-half heroes to come up with a win over Florida
Midway through the latest rendition of The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, Georgia finds itself in an eerily similar, albeit uncomfortable spot. These games have required Georgia to save its best for when it counts. Stockton has not been as sharp as he has been in recent weeks. Mike Bobo has been hit or miss with the play-calling, while Glenn Schumann's defense has come to play today.
Georgia has been able to run the football effectively, but the passing game has not been easy to rely upon. Defensively, the Dawgs are making it challenging for Lagway and company. This interim coaching staff of Florida's may be the result of Georgia playing relatively conservative offensively in the first half. It may be a feeling-out period for the Dawgs before they make adjustments and attack.
While Georgia is still in the College Football Playoff picture, regardless of what happens in this game, Kirby Smart will not want to make the Dawgs' final four games have to be of the must-win variety. If any team can run the gauntlet, it is Georgia, but why do that to yourself? In the end, Georgia has been in these situations before. They are more talented than Florida, but they have to play with some focus.
A few more scores and some more great defense should help Georgia get to 7-1 (5-1) in the end here.
