The transfer portal has only been open for a few hours, but countless players have already made the decision to enter and take their career elsewhere. Georgia hasn’t been immune to this as running back Branson Robinson was the first Bulldog to enter his name into the transfer portal this spring.

Robinson likely won’t be the last Bulldog to enter the portal, but worrying about who else could leave isn’t that much fun. What is fun is trying to figure out who Georgia could target and try to bring in from the portal.

There are obviously many options out there that make sense for Georgia, but some names seem like a better fit than others. And insider Jonathan Williams with Georgia Bulldogs on SI shared three of those names that he believes Georgia fans should pay close attention to.

Three names to monitor in the portal

The consensus among most experts around Georgia is that they will need to add at least one player at EDGE from the portal. This sentiment is shared by Williams as two of his three players he named play that position.

Those players are Beau Atkinson from North Carolina and Phillip Lee from Troy. Both players are coming off monster seasons where Lee recorded five sacks and Atkinson tallied 11 over the last two years, so they clearly have the ability to immediately excel at a place like Georgia.

The third player shared by Williams is Illinois running back Josh McCray. Running back didn’t really seem like much of a need for Georgia entering Wednesday, but the departure of Robinson makes this name more intriguing.

Last season McCray tallied 609 yards and five touchdowns. He also recorded an impressive 5.2 yards per carry which shows that just like the two EDGE players, he too would be a huge addition to Georgia’s running back room.

It remains to be seen if Georgia actually targets any of these players, but keep a close eye on them as all three would be big time additions to the program.
