Georgia football is officially in contention to land the No. 1 running back in the country.

The Bulldogs have been pursuing Savion Hiter for quite some time now, but it’s never really felt like Georgia’s had much of a chance in his recruitment. It even felt like Georgia was way behind even though Hiter took his official visit to Athens this past weekend.

But word immediately came out from Hiter directory after his visit when he shared how much he loved his visit to Georgia. That however is what recruits say after every visit regardless of how they truly feel, so it was hard to get a good read of where Georgia stands from this message alone.

But On3’s Steve Wiltfong finally commented on Hiter’s recruitment after his visit to Athens, and he officially named the Bulldogs a "contender" for the top ranked running back in the 2026 recruiting class.

”Georgia definitely feels like a contender coming out of the visit.”

Georgia once again has a chance with Savion Hiter

While it is nice for Georgia to finally be named a contender in this recruitment, that doesn't matter if UGA doesn't win this battle. And there is still plenty of work to be done to win this recruitment.

Hiter has already visited Ohio State, and the Buckeyes will always be a difficult team to beat on the recruiting trail. Hiter will officially visit Michigan this weekend as well, and most experts believe the Wolverines are the team to beat right now. The final visit for Hiter as of now will then take place in two weeks when he makes the trip to SEC rival Tennessee.

This still doesn't feel like a recruitment where Georgia fans should get their hopes up too high, but for now UGA does have a chance which is all they can ask for right now.
