Many college football programs will claim they are the hottest on the recruiting trail right now, but that title in reality belongs to Georgia. The Bulldogs have earned a whopping six commitments in the 2026 class alone in the month of June, with a seventh coming in the 2027 class as well. And these aren't just any commits either, they are coming from some of the best players in the country.

The latest commitment came from four-star offensive lineman Ekene Ogboko, who made his commitment to Georgia official on Wednesday. Ogboko is the No. 40 player in the country according to 247Sports, so it's clear how big of a pickup this was for the Bulldogs.

So what did this commitment do to Georgia in the recruiting rankings?

Georgia was well outside the top 20 just one month ago, but after this run of commitments that is no longer the case. In fact, UGA is closing in on taking over the No. 1 spot after this commitment from Ogboko.

Georgia closing in on No. 1 recruiting class ranking

According to the 247Sports team recruiting rankings, Georgia has the No. 2 class in the entire country. They also have the best class in the SEC, with Texas A&M sitting at No. 4 and LSU at No. 9.

The only team above Georgia is USC, but that will eventually change. The Trojans already have 29 commits in the 2026 class while Georgia is only sitting at 17, so as Georgia adds more commits to catch up to USC's total they will pass the Trojans and take over the No. 1 spot.

There is always a chance another team comes on strong and passes Georgia in these rankings, but with the way things are going right now that likely won't happen anytime soon.

In the coming days multiple Georgia targets will announce their commitments which will give UGA a chance to continue to catch up to USC and put a larger gap between them and the programs behind them. So don't be surprised if Georgia takes over the No. 1 spot in a week or two, because that is how hot Kirby Smart and Georgia have been on the trail in the last month.
