Georgia is officially the favorite to win the SEC. That hasn’t been the case over the last few years as Texas was the media’s darling once they joined the conference, but the media have finally learned their lesson and are giving Georgia the respect they deserve.
The Bulldogs do have a lot going in their favor this season as they have the easiest schedule in the SEC. But they return the fifth-most production in the country from a team who just won the conference last year, so it shouldn’t be surprising to see them be the favorite to win the SEC.

Being the favorite comes with a lot of challenges though. Georgia already had a target on their back since they are the defending champs, but being the favorite entering the season means that everyone will want to knock them off this season even more.
Georgia will face new challenges being the favorite in the SEC
The media gifted Georgia a chip on their shoulder the last two years when they named Texas the favorite to win the SEC. Even though Georgia felt they were better than them, the media believed in Texas and that gave UGA an edge.
Georgia won’t have that edge this season because the media is on their side this year. Not only that, but Vegas oddsmakers just adjusted their odds as well to make UGA a big favorite too. So everyone is believing in Georgia this year, so it will be interesting to see how they handle that.
No one has won more than Georgia has with Kirby Smart though, so he won’t shy away from this added pressure. The expectations will remain the same, so regardless of what anyone else says Georgia will always put pressure on themselves to win the SEC.
And that will be no different this year.
Georgia can make SEC history in 2026
Georgia has a chance to make SEC history this season, and it’s clear that the media thinks they’re going to do it.
If Georgia wins the SEC this season it will be their third title in a row. That has only happened two other times since the SEC Championship game was introduced in the 1990s. Florida was the first to do it in the early 90s when they won four titles in a row, then Nick Saban’s Alabama won three in a row in the mid-2010s.
Georgia could join this list of teams this season if they come out on top, but this accomplishment would arguably be better than Florida and Alabama since UGA would’ve done it with Texas and Oklahoma in the conference.
Georgia has a lot of work to do if they are going to win the SEC again this year, but they clearly are good enough to get it done. Sure this added pressure might make it a little more difficult for them, but Georgia is built for this moment.
