Georgia’s luck is running out with one of the nation’s best recruits.

A few weeks ago Georgia received some great news from the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle. That player is Mark Matthews who is the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class.

A couple weeks ago Georgia found out they were in his top three. That obviously was great news to hear, but the good vibes from that update just vanished in the blink of an eye.

Mark Matthews is not as high on Georgia as everyone once thought

The above report mentions that Georgia is still one of Matthews' top three schools along with Miami and Texas A&M. However, Rivals' Josh Newberg still likes his prediction that Miami is the clear team to beat.

This news is a bit surprising because of all the positive momentum Georgia has seen with Matthews recently. On top of being named one of his top three schools, Matthews was just in town at the end of January on a visit to Georgia. And to take it one step further he gave some great quotes that showed just how much he loved Georgia.

But apparently Georgia was never in as good of a position with Matthews as it once seemed.

So where does Georgia go now? Matthews still hasn't committed to Miami and he doesn't have a commitment date set either, so they still have a chance to win this recruitment. It may seem unlikely at this point, but Georgia has come from behind with recruits in the past and they certainly can again.

But Georgia needs to plan as if they are not going to win this recruitment. Knowking how Kirby Smart recruits he likely already has plenty of other offensive tackles he is recruiting, but for now Georgia should prepare for their 2027 recruiting class to not have Matthews in it.
