Georgia football has officially earned their spot in the SEC Championship game. For the longest time it was looking like Georgia wasn't even going to make it to Atlanta with a 7-1 SEC record, but they Arch Manning and Texas gave them the help they needed by beating Texas A&M Saturday night.
Georgia is still waiting to find out who their opponent will be, but at this point who cares who it is. The Bulldogs are back in the Championship game, and that is the only thing that matters.
Georgia, Kirby Smart set multiple records after clinching SEC Championship game appearance
Georgia has become very used to making the SEC Championship game under Kirby Smart. In fact, this is the eighth time in Smart's 10 year career that Georgia has made the SEC Championship game. No one has to be told how remarkable of a feat that is, but the Bulldogs set multiple SEC records after clinching their spot in Atlanta.
This will be Georgia's fifth straight appearance in the SEC Championship game, and they are only the second team to ever pull that off. Steve Spurrier and Florida did it from 1992-1996 as well, so this is the first time in nearly three decades that a team has been able to accomplish this.
On top of that, Smart is the first coach to ever take their team to the SEC Championship game eight out of nine years. Since 2017, the only time Georgia has failed to make it to Atlanta was during the 2020 Covid season, so this run of eight appearances in nine years is something no coach has ever accomplished before.
Georgia will play either Alabama or Ole Miss in the Championship game next week, but until then UGA deserves to celebrate the amazing accomplishment that is making it to the SEC Championship game.
