The Georgia Bulldogs have been incredibly active in the transfer portal as the first week of it being open is starting to draw to a close. After landing safety Khalil Barnes out of Clemson over the weekend, the floodgates finally opened up for UGA. The Dawgs landed wide receiver Isiah Canion on Thursday, not long before cornerback Braylon Conley put pen to paper to come Commit to the G...
Now that trio will be joined by former Auburn Tigers edge rusher Amaris Williams in this portal class!

Williams comes to Athens after spending the two previous seasons down on The Plains at Auburn. The Clinton, North Carolina native is the No. 6 edge rusher in this transfer portal class, as well as the No. 30 overall player who has entered the portal. He was a former five-star recruit coming out of high school. With Alex Golesh taking over for Hugh Freeze at Auburn, talented guys like Williams have left.
Williams' commitment to Georgia is the latest example of how wide the gap is between the two rivals.
Amaris Williams finally provides Georgia some relief with the pass rush
Even when Auburn is down, the Tigers regularly recruit and develop high-end defensive linemen. While South Carolina has been more en vogue in that regard in recent seasons, Auburn is still a top-15 program in the history of college football. One of the reasons why Georgia is not playing in the national semifinals was its underwhelming pass rush. Kirby Smart must have seen something here...
Although Golesh could conceivably turn Auburn around in a hurry, it is likely going to be another struggle fest for the Tigers this upcoming season, based solely on the amount of roster attrition they are suffering. If he thinks he can win with mostly South Florida players in the SEC right away, he is sorely mistaken. As for Williams, he now goes from a sub-.500 team to one that will make the playoff.
Overall, we still have another eight days or so before the transfer portal closes for the most part. Teams that are playing in the national championship on MLK Day night will have an additional five days to figure it all out. For now, Georgia seems to have carefully identified a number of players who make the most sense to be part of next year's team. Williams may be part of the next two at Georgia.
At this time, Georgia is starting to silence some of the biggest voices internally regarding the portal.
