Georgia looks to do to Miami what Miami already did to them

Georgia’s visitor list this weekend is second to none.

Georgia is very familiar with what Miami did to them last offseason. Last year Miami swooped in and stole Carson Beck from Georgia when the Bulldogs thought he was heading to the NFL. That play ended up working out very well for Miami since Beck led them to the National Championship game, but ever since then UGA has been looking for an opportunity to get their revenge.

And they may have just found it.

The Bulldogs are hosting a huge recruiting event in Athens this weekend, and there are countless elite recruits flooding to Athens. But offensive tackle Mark Matthews potentially is the most exciting player on campus and is giving Georgia the opportunity for some revenge against Miami.

5-star OT has an opportunity to change Georgia's program

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Matthews is a five-star recruit and the No. 2 overall player in the country. He also is the top ranked tackle in the 2027 recruiting clasa and the No. 1 player from his home state of Florida as well.

Miami is thought to be the leader in his recruitment right now, but Georgia has a chance to change that. Georgia has an opportunity to overcome Miami's lead in this recruitment and steal the best offensive tackle from their backyard.

This recruiting win wouldn't be exactly like when Miami took Beck from Georgia. Beck was an established player who had played at Georgia for five years before deciding to move on to Miami. But this win would have just as large of an impact on the field because a player like Matthews would be a program changing addition.

Matthews does not have any plans of announcing a commitment anytime soon, but that could be a good thing for Georgia. This gives them plenty of time to continue recruiting him and hopefully surpass Miami and come out on top.
