Expectations for Georgia and Texas fans were sky high entering their matchup at the College World Series Saturday night. Both teams were undefeated in NCAA Tournament play and they both were some of the favorites to win the National Championship.

Georgia had the better season so far this year after winning the SEC regular season and tournament championship, but that didn’t stop Texas fans from being extremely confident going into this game. But it didn’t take long for Georgia to make Texas fans regret having any confidence.

Georgia put Texas fans back in their place where they’ve always belonged

Texas has only been in the SEC for two years, and in those two years they have faced Georgia on massive stages multiple times. Unfortunately for them they have fallen short every single time.

Georgia’s 7-1 win at the College World Series is just the latest example of the Bulldogs’s dominance over Texas. This game was potentially the most anticipated opening game at the CWS, but Georgia jumped out to a big lead in the first inning and never looked back.

This victory over Texas on a big stage like the College World Series isn’t anything new for Georgia. Since joining the conference Texas and Georgia have played three football games. All three games went Georgia’s way which included a win at Texas when the Longhorns were the No. 1 team in the country and in the 2024 SEC Championship game.

Those losses apparently have had a lasting effect on Texas fans, but it looks like Georgia’s victory at the College World Series officially broke them.

Georgia took complete control of CWS bracket with victory over Texas

It’s impossible to express just how massive this win was for Georgia, but this win was huge.

Going back to their Super Regional tilt against Mississippi State so many baseball fans were saying the winner of that series would win the National Championship. Many fans thought they were the best two teams in the country, so after Georgia swept Mississippi State the Bulldogs’ path to a national title felt a little easier.

But then came Texas who was just as hot with their perfect 5-0 NCAA Tournament record. This led baseball fans to change their minds and say whoever won this game Saturday night would probably win the National Championship, and once again Georgia passed this test with flying colors.

Now Georgia heads to the winner’s bracket where they will play Oklahoma in yet another big game. Georgia however only needs to win two more games to advance to the National Championship series, and when comparing that to Texas who has to win four games it’s clear how big this victory is.

There is still a long ways for Georgia to go, but they are a perfect 6-0 in the NCAA Tournament and look like the most complete team at the College World Series.

Will that result in a National Championship though? Only time will tell, but this team is capable of winning Georgia’s second National Championship in program history.
