This is getting so old... While the Georgia Bulldogs were able to win the first two College Football Playoffs of the NIL era in 2021 and 2022, the notion of inducement for players coming out of high school continues to rear its ugly head when it comes to this team. Georgia somehow missed out on four-star quarterback Peter Bourque who de-committed from Michigan, only to go to ... Virginia Tech.
These were the four schools who had the best chances of landing Bourque's commitment for 2027.
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Michigan Wolverines
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Virginia Tech Hokies
Once Dawg Nation saw the Hayes Fawcett graphic hit on social media, they were not thrilled about it...

There was some serious momentum for Georgia to potentially land Bourque, but it still came up short.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Bourque is the No. 1 player from Massachusetts, the No. 7 quarterback in the country, and the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. He initially committed to Michigan way back in August, only to back out of it about three months ago in mid-February. This may be a huge get for James Franklin in Blacksburg, but Smart cannot be loving this.
Georgia may have Gunner Stockton for another season, but the quarterback room is getting barren.
Kirby Smart, Georgia need to refine focus after missing out on 4-star QB
The same thing keeps happening to Georgia... The Bulldogs continue to almost always be the bridesmaid for many marquee recruits, but very rarely the bride. Bourque may have been way out-of-state, but UGA should have been able to comfortably beat out Penn State and Virginia Tech once he de-committed from Michigan. Those are good programs, but nowhere near the one that Georgia is.
So what is Smart and his staff to do? They need to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out why closing the deal on so many prospects of note is not working out. Smart might prefer to land guys who really want to play Between the Hedges, but why is he subjecting himself to being Charlie Brown and letting the Lucy of the Week continue to pull the football out from under him. Good grief...
Eventually, Smart and his staff will get it right with its 2027 recruiting class. The Bulldogs still have time to make their climb up the rankings. However, only having seven players committed to the cause at this time is not landing well within certain legions of Dawg Nation. Georgia regularly recruits at a top-five level. The Bulldogs have a long way to go to even get there this year. This one stings a ton...
Right now, Georgia needs to find ways to be more competitive financially with these prospective recruits coming out of high school. It is starting to feel like the Atlanta Braves after Ted Turner sold the team to Time Warner a quarter century ago. Their offers quickly became non-competitive in free agency. It is why everybody but Chipper Jones eventually left the Team of the '90s behind for money.
Now is the time for a mound visit for Smart and Georgia's biggest boosters to go figure this thing out!
