Georgia heads to Ole Miss as the No. 2 team in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings. The Rebels are ranked No. 10, and as the home team it wouldn't be surprising to see them upset Georgia.
The Bulldogs however have a big disadvantage heading into this game, at least from the perspective of those who are superstitious. For the last three weeks the No. 2 ranked team in the country has lost. Last week it was Ohio State losing to USC, before that it was BYU losing to UCF and three weeks ago it was Notre Dame losing to BYU.
Georgia now finds themselves in position to either break this curse or become the fourth team ranked No. 2 to lose in a row .
The No. 2 ranking has been an ugly curse the last three weeks
It isn't often that the No. 2 team in the country loses in back-to-back weeks, but to see it happen three weeks in a row is amazing. It isn't like the No. 2 team has been losing to great teams each week either because the last two weeks they lost to an unranked opponent.
Georgia however finds themselves as the next No. 2 team to take the field this weekend, and a loss is possible. The Bulldogs not only are a small favorite heading into this game, but they're taking on an Ole Miss team who is ranked No. 10 in the country. To make matters even more difficult they also have to face the Rebels on the road and under the lights.
This is a recipe for disaster, but if anyone can break the No. 2 curse it is this Georgia team.
Georgia was the last team ranked No. 2 to win
Four weeks ago was the last time the No. 2 ranked team won a game, and it was the Georgia Bulldogs who were that team. Four weeks ago was when Georgia traveled to Alabama and beat the Crimson Tide which feels like an eternity ago, but that was the last victory for the No. 2 ranked team in the country.
The good news for Georgia is that Alabama is a similar opponent to Ole Miss. They are just as talented if not better than Ole Miss, and the atmosphere in Tuscaloosa is arguably more difficult to play in than the Rebels' home field in Oxford. If any team was going to end this losing streak for the No. 2 ranked team in the country this Georgia team would be one of the most likely to end it.
Winning will not be easy, but Georgia is more than capable of going into Oxford, ending this losing streak and getting some much needed revenge.
