While transfer portal season creates a lot of worry amongst Georgia football fans because of who could leave the program, it also brings a lot of excitement as well. Sure the Bulldogs lost one player to the portal on Wednesday in running back Branson Robinson, but only losing one player on the first day is actually pretty solid.

But the news that every fan has been waiting to see is who Kirby Smart and his staff will target in the portal. While they are likely to pursue a lot of players, the first target for Georgia just became known late Wednesday night.

North Carolina EDGE Beau Atkinson

Many Georgia insiders believed that EDGE would be the position Georgia would target with the most aggression in the portal this spring, so it isn't that surprising that the first player linked to Georgia this spring is an EDGE.

Beau Atkinson is a transfer EDGE from North Carolina where he has spent two seasons. While Atkinson had a very solid freshman season, it was this past season where he really put his name on the map. Atkinson finished the 2024 season with 35 tackles and a whopping 7.5 sacks. Now that is some production that UGA could definitely use.

According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, Atkinson has scheduled an upcoming visit to Georgia. He has also scheduled a visit with Ohio State as well, so as it stands today it is a battle between the Bulldogs and the Buckeyes.

No date has been released for when these visits will take place, but they likely will happen very soon if not later this week and into the weekend. So stay tuned as there is a chance Atkinson could be the first addition for Georgia this spring, and that would be a home run acquisition for the Bulldogs.
