It isn't very often that Georgia fans should be thanking the Florida Gators for anything, but the Gators did UGA a huge favor on Saturday. Florida welcomed a top 10 Texas team to Gainesville in a game that everyone thought would be a bloodbath. But instead of getting embarrassed for the fourth time this season, Florida walked away with a 29-21 upset victory over the Longhorns.

While it may feel strange to celebrate a Florida win, this outcome was exactly what Georgia needed.

Georgia should thank Florida for beating Texas

Four games into the season and Florida already eliminated themselves from contending for anything important. This includes the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff after they started 1-3 this year. So all that was left for the Gators was to play spoiler, and that’s exactly what they did.

Florida took advantage of their opportunity to help ruin Texas’s season by taking them down at home by eight points. This loss is the second for Texas this season, meaning they are going to have major problems making it to Atlanta or to the CFP. Texas theoretically can still make it to both, but they will have to win out the rest of the season, and considering they still haven’t beaten a power four team this year that seems unlikely.

Georgia has a lot of work to do themselves stull if they are going to accomplish their goals, but Florida made their life a little bit easier. Now Georgia will have the chance later this season to completely end Texas’s season which sounds like a fun idea.

The Bulldogs will have to be careful though because they do play the Gators later this year as well. Florida would love nothing more than to do to Georgia exactly what they just did to Texas, but UGA will cross that road when they get there.

For now they can celebrate the fact that Florida made Georgia’s path to the SEC Championship game and CFP that much easier.
