Death, taxes and the Associated Press being overly reactionary to everything. Once again, the delightful AP voters decided to not give the Georgia Bulldogs the benefit of the doubt in their latest rankings. Yes, we all knew the Dawgs were going to drop down from No. 5 after losing at home to Alabama, 24-21. However, water is eventually going to find its level with this team in the end, folks.
The latest Coaches Poll had Georgia dropping seven spots from No. 3 all the way down to No. 10. That seems largely justified, especially with the team being ranked arguably appropriately coming in. As far as the AP Poll is concerned, the voters love to champion their favorite new flavor of the week, while tossing out yesterday's news like after dinner garbage. So what were you expecting from them?
Here is the latest AP Top 25 Poll heading into Week 6 of the 2025-26 college football season.

Seeing Georgia at No. 12 is a bit rich, especially with Penn State only falling to No. 7. Head-to-head, who would you take? Kirby Smart would coach circles around James Franklin. Even though the Texas Tech Red Raiders are undefeated, to see Joey McGuire's team ranked ahead of the Dawgs is honestly quite laughable. A lot can change between now and then, but Georgia should have just won Saturday.
Even more concerning, this No. 12 ranking would have the Dawgs as the first team out of the playoff...
Georgia needs to start racking up some wins to make the playoff field
Look. Being the No. 12 team in the country at the end of September is not the same as being the No. 12 team in the nation at the end of the conference championship games. Because the playoff field requires a fifth conference champion, the presumptive winner of Memphis vs. South Florida in The American would make the field. This would knock Georgia down a peg into being the first team out.
Now if we were to look at projected College Football Playoff percentages from ESPN's FPI rankings, Georgia still has the seventh-best odds of making the field at 57 percent. They would be seeded seventh and would host the Oklahoma Sooners in a first-round game Between the Hedges. Again, Georgia had an opportunity to make something doubly good happen over the weekend, but failed.
Right now, the good news for Georgia is the Bulldogs still have a quality win on the road over Tennessee. The bad news is they suffered their first loss at home since before COVID, effectively giving the Crimson Tide more than new life in the playoff race. The SEC is likely to get four or more teams into the playoff this season. Georgia is among the candidates to do it, but has to figure it out.
Regardless of if you like where Georgia is ranked this week, be thankful that Kentucky is up next...
