Valdin Sone is nearing his commitment date as the four-star defensive lineman will announce his commitment on July 18. Sone’s final four consists of Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Nebraska, but a new prediction has been placed for Georgia football to be the team to come out on top.

Georgia closing in on a commitment from No. 4 DL

According to 247Sports, Sone is the No. 46 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 4 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 3 player from his home state of Virginia.

Georgia currently has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, but the goal at Georgia is to finish with the top ranked class. Earning a commitment from an elite recruit like Sone will do wonders for UGA in accomplishing that goal.

On top of Georgia’s pursuit of sigining the No. 1 class, Sone will be a perfect replacement for former Georgia commit James Johnson. According to On3, Johnson is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country, so losing his commitment to Texas on Tuesday was a massive loss for Georgia. But thankfully it appears UGA is well on their way to finding Johnson’s replacement in their 2026 recruiting class.

But the one thing that will make this commitment even better is that it would come at the hands of rivals Auburn and Florida. Earning a commitment from a top 50 player is great regardless of who Georgia beats along the way, but taking down two of UGA’s rivals along the way will make this one of Georgia’s best commits of the summer.

Georgia does still have two more days to hold on to their lead, but if everything goes according to plan UGA will be landing one of the best defensive linemen in the country on Friday.
